Thank you for considering being a volunteer with the Centre for Catholic Formation. As you may have witnessed at our events such as the Rite of Election, volunteers are an invaluable part of making everything go smoothly.

There are a number of other opportunities for volunteering with the CCF (as we are often known) based at Tooting Bec. If you would consider helping in one or more of these ways we would be delighted to hear from you. Here is a list, not exhaustive, of the kinds of things with which you might be able to help:

Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion

Steward (handing out orders of service and ‘policing’ the reserved seating); Registrar (taking information from RCIA coordinators); Other Roles including taking the collection, supervising the Book of the Elect and guiding people outside of the cathedral to the toilets, registration etc.

At the Centre for Catholic Formation

Administration (stuffing of envelopes for bulk mail-outs – e.g. ahead of the Rite of Election and our termly programme); Weekend Cover (welcoming people as they arrive at the Centre for courses, keeping the door register and taking payment if needed); Evening Cover (welcoming people as they arrive at the Centre, typically from 7pm, for talks and other events, keeping the door register and taking payment if needed); Phone Cover (when the team has our monthly Mass and Meeting, answer the phones and door, take messages etc).

Aylesford Day of Celebration for those with Disabilities

This annual event, on the first Sunday of July, is a particularly joyous occasion. Alongside the team, you would provide stewarding to the different workshops and liturgies; as well assistance with the art and music workshops if you so wish.

Major Events such as the New Evangelization Summit

On 28 April this year, we will be the first UK host site for the annual New Evangelization Summit which takes place in Ottowa, Canada but will be livestreamed to the UK over the internet. We would be looking for two volunteers to help us with stewarding the day at the Centre for Catholic Formation and helping with registration. You would be entitled to a free place at the Summit, which will be a ticketed event, and food will be provided.

Diocesan Day for Catechists

Each year, at the end of September, we host a day for catechists and children’s liturgists at the Amigo Hall and Cathedral (in 2018 this will be on 22 September). Again, help with registration and guiding people around the site would be very helpful. Food will be provided.

Should you wish to volunteer, please get in touch. In responding, it would be very useful if you could provide us with:

  • a small biography, who you are, the parish you belong to etc.
  • a reference from your parish priest or someone else who knows you from your parish
  • an idea of the skills you might bring to the volunteering role (IT skills, social media, first aid, a general willingness to help!)
  • contact details (address, phone number)

As you can see, there is plenty of scope for involvement. Indeed, there may be other ways in which you can help that we haven’t listed; if so, let us know. We look forward to hearing from you.
