“Evangelization is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity, She exists in order to evangelize.” (Pope Paul VI, Evangelii Nuntiandi, 14).
Evangelization means to fulfill the mandate of Jesus Christ to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19), so that all might respond to the Father’s love and be saved through communion with Jesus and His body, the Church. At the core of evangelization is “the proclamation of Christ and his Gospel by word and the testimony of life,” which invites conversion, evidenced through faith in Christ, repentance, and full communion with the Catholic Church. How does the Centre for Catholic Formation serve evangelization?
In the Archdiocese of Southwark various initiatives have been promoted and a series of diocesan-wide conferences have been held under the heading 'Go Announce the Gospel of the Lord'. A video from these conferences can be seen on the 'Go Announce the Gospel of the Lord' page and the text of Archbishop Peter's address can be downloaded here. Seminars are held on evangelization in various contexts (e.g. in Inner London, in the Family, through Justice and Peace) and advisers at the Centre are always willing to come to speak to parish groups on the topic of evangelization.
The Centre for Catholic Formation has developed a Handbook for Parish Evangelization Teams, now in its second edition, which can be downloaded via the button below.
